Naamakaranam is the process of assigning a name to the newborn baby based on its Rasi and nakshatra, Or selecting a suitable name as per the Sastras to receive the blessings of the Lord. The essential Poojas performed are Punyahavachanam and Jathakarmam. On this day, the baby should wear new clothes, and then the rituals are done by speaking out the name of the baby in its ear. After the completion of Rituals, the name chanted during the naamakaran is considered the official Hindu name used for Sankalpa.

When to Perform Naamakaranam Pooja?

Traditionally, Naamakaranam is performed on the 11th day of the baby’s birth. It is auspicious when performed in the morning.
